GREENUP — Several members of a Greenup County family pleaded guilty recently to drug charges.

Edna Hay, 68, Tina Hay, 31, Otis Carl Hay, 43, and Christina Emory, 31, all pleaded guilty in Greenup Circuit Court last week.

Another defendant, Otis E. Hay, 72, was in court to plead guilty but showed signs he did not understand the proceeding, Commonwealth’s Attorney Mel Leonhart said. Judge Robert Conley ordered a mental evaluation before entering the plea.

The defendants pleaded guilty to drug charges in exchange for prosecutors dropping organized crime charges.

Investigators with the FIVCO‚ÄąArea Drug Enforcement task force, the sheriff’s department and the Kentucky State Police spent two months watching the defendants and buying drugs from them before raiding their Flatwoods homes last April.

Edna Hay, called “Granny,” was considered the ringleader of the group.
