Work will close I-64 exit in Carter

FLEMINGSBURG - Work on Interstate 64 in Carter County will require the closure of the westbound Exit 161 (Pleasant Valley) ramps at Olive Hill today.

The ramps will be closed from approximately 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Exit 156 (Smokey Valley) and U.S. 60 to access Olive Hill or the interstate. Motorists should watch for message boards announcing the closures or advising of changes because of bad weather.

A $10.4 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway improvement project remains ongoing along I-64 from mile marker 154 to mile marker 166 for paving and other work. Some sections of the interstate have been reduced to one lane through the work zone, and the speed limit has been reduced to 55 miles per hour.

Officials said motorists should heed warning signs, watch for narrow lanes and drive carefully by remaining aware of workers and construction equipment.
