2 charged in Flatwoods meth bust

FLATWOODS — Police on Tuesday arrested a man and a woman for allegedly making methamphetamine in a house on Indian Run Road.

Jessica D. Sammons, 35, of Wurtland, and Ryan J. Cornwell, 32, of Ashland, were lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center, both charged with first-offense manufacturing meth.

According to a news release from the FADE Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Flatwoods Police Department on Tuesday received a request for a welfare check at a home in the 2600 block of Indian Run. When they arrived, they were notified the two occupants of the house were cooking meth.

Officers entered the home and detained the two suspects and contacted FADE after spotting what appeared to be a one-pot meth cooker. FADE responded and confirmed the presence of one active cooker and two gas generators.

The house was evacuated and a Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement Special Investigations team was called to the scene to dismantle the operation.

The house was declared unfit for habitation by the KSP and Flatwoods Police Chief Kraig Hankins requested the home be boarded up until the Greenup County Health Department receives notice it has been decontaminated.

The investigation is continuing and other charges may be pending, according to FADE.
