Candidates begin filing for election
Variety of area offices up for vote on May 18

ASHLAND —
A number of local individuals took advantage of the first day of election filings to announce their candidacy for 2010 races.
Candidate filing opened at 8 a.m. Wednesday and will continue through Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. for Republican and Democratic candidates. The 2010 primary will be May 18.
For Independent candidates in school board races, some city races and other races that do not require a primary, candidates must file a statement of candidacy by April 1.
Candidates must file their petition for general election ballot access by 4 p.m. Aug. 10.
A variety of federal, state and local offices are up for election in 2010 including a U.S. representative, state senators in even districts, all state House representatives, Kentucky justices of the Supreme Court in districts 1, 2, 4 and 6, district judges, county judge-executive, magistrates/commissioners, county clerk, county attorney, jailer, coroner, surveyor, property valuation administrator, constable, sheriff and school boards.
Races for the city commission in Ashland and city commission and mayor of Catlettsburg are also on the ballot.
In addition, an election will take place for circuit judge in Boyd County.
State Rep. Kevin Sinnette, D-100th, will seek re-election to a second term in office.
A handful of candidates filed in Boyd County to seek a variety of offices:
—Chris Stevens (Democrat), jailer.
—Tim Wallin (Democrat), jailer.
—William “Bud” Stevens (Democrat), county judge-executive.
—Terry Keelin (Democrat), sheriff
—Debbie Jones (Democrat), county clerk.
Seven filed in Greenup County:
—Tony D. Quillen (Republican), county commissioner District 2
—Keith Cooper (Democrat), sheriff
—Mike Worthington (Republican), jailer
—Patricia “Pat” Hieneman (Democrat), county clerk
_Robert W. “Bobby” Carpenter (Democrat), county judge-executive
—Jeff Hurn (Democrat), county judge-executive
—Leonard Hall Jr. (Democrat), constable District 3
Ten candidates filed in Lawrence County:
—Phil Triplett (Democrat), jailer.
—Eddie Wayne Michaels (Democrat), county judge- executive.
—John A. Osborne (Democrat), county judge-executive.
—Scott Cyrus (Democrat), magistrate District 2.
—Garrett Roberts (Democrat), sheriff.
—Michael T. Hogan (Republican), county attorney.
—Terry Jerry York (Republican), magistrate District 4.
—Chris Jobe (Republican), county clerk
—Chris Rose (Democrat), PVA
—Phillip L. Carter (Republican), county judge-executive.
Carter County filings were not immediately available on Wednesday night.
