Census Bureau appoints managers for Ashland office

ASHLAND — The U.S. Census Bureau has appointed a slate of managers for a new 2010 Census office in Ashland at 1539 Greenup Ave., Suite 501, east of Ashland Town Center. The new managers, all area residents, are:

-Gary Wollenhaupt, local census office manager;

-Charles “Bill” Nolte, assistant manager for field operations;

-Rhonda Godbey, assistant manager for quality assurance;

-Kelly Workman, assistant manager for administration;

-Robert Cox, assistant manager for recruiting;

-David Tackett, assistant manager for technology.

The Ashland office supports 2010 Census operations in 25 counties: Bath, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Floyd, Greenup, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Lee, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Owsley, Pike, Powell, Rowan and Wolfe.

Two offices opened in 2008 to carry out operations to prepare for the census in the state. They are in Lexington and Louisville. The Ashland office is one of five new local census offices in Kentucky, bringing the total number to seven.

The new managers bring a wealth of talent and experience to the 2010 Census.

Ohio native, Wollenhaupt, is a graduate of Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. He has worked in journalism, marketing and communications.

Nolte is a lifelong resident of the Ashland area. A graduate of Ashland Community and Technical College, he earned a MBA from Morehead State University. Nolte worked for the Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons, for 22 years as an accountant, budget analyst and teacher.

Godbey, assistant manager for quality assurance, is a U.S. Army veteran and graduate of West Virginia University and an experienced human resources manager.

Workman has worked for the Bank of Ashland as the computer room manager, as well as a field engineer for Nortel Networks.

Cox is a 38-year veteran of state government, spending much of his time with the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission. He served as a vocational rehabilitation counselor.

Tackett graduated from Ashland Community and Technical College and has worked for Cingular Wireless.

Census results are used to determine the number of congressional seats for each state, the shape of legislative and local government districts, and how more than $400 billion in federal funds is distributed annually to communities across the country.

April 1, is Census Day, the reference day for collecting census information from every household in America.

Census questionnaires will be mailed or delivered in mid-March. The Kentucky offices will close after census operations end in 2010.
