Boyd board to meet Friday

CANNONSBURG - The Boyd County Board of Education will have a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the high school library. The board will discuss accountability test scores.



Blazer meeting rescheduled

ASHLAND - The November meeting of the Paul G. Blazer High School council has been changed to 3:40 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Building 1 conference room.



Bellefonte streets set for paving

BELLEFONTE - Work will start in about a week on paving of two streets in Bellefonte, according to Paul Amburgey of E.L. Robinson Engineering.

The $89,000 contract calls for resurfacing 0.7 miles of Bellefonte Drive from Ky. 5 to Amanda Furnace Drive and 0.6 miles of Amanda Furnace Drive from Bellefonte Drive to the end. Amanda Furnace Circle also will be paved.

The cost is less than the $100,000 the city budgeted but still above the city’s annual street fund budget.

The city will pay for it out of $131,000 in grants from the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority.

Sections of each street will be temporarily closed as resurfacing progresses. The contractor will maintain traffic and place construction signs notifying of roadwork and detour requirements.

OLBH shop to have open house

RUSSELL - Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital will host an open house to unveil the OLBH Auxiliary Christmas Shop on Nov. 6. The shop will remain open through the holidays and is across from the hospital’s front entrance.

The shop, a first for the hospital, will be operated by the OLBH Auxiliary, which also operates the hospital’s gift shop. The new shop will feature holiday items such as ornaments, snowmen, candles and other seasonal merchandise. Shop hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Refreshments will be served at the open house.

Halloween party Friday at center

ASHLAND - The Ashland Senior Center will have a Halloween party on Friday. Doors will open at 9 a.m. There will be games, door prizes, costume contests and a theme lunch.



Veteran to lead Garner revival

MEADS - U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Tim Lee will lead revival services Sunday through Tuesday at Garner Missionary Baptist Church at 19231 Ky. 3.

Lee, an evangelist who directs Tim Lee Ministries, lost his legs in a landmine explosion during combat in Vietnam. He is also scheduled to share his story on Sunday at the Ramey-Estep Homes and at 9 a.m. Monday at Boyd County High School.
