Anyone hauling a boat or driving a large RV to Grayson Lake will find the journey easier and safer during their next visit.
Projects to widen the park’s access road and improve visibility at the main entrance are now complete, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. A dedicated right-turn lane has also been added at the park entrance on Ky. 7.
Park manager Beverly Faulkner said the previous roadway was wide enough for two passenger vehicles to pass in opposite directions, although the non-striped path required motorists in large vehicles, or those hauling boats, to pull off the highway to allow for oncoming traffic.
Faulkner said the road-width problem became increasingly apparent as a growing number of golf enthusiasts discovered and patronized the park’s Hidden Cove Golf Course.
“They also took down the banks on both sides of the main entrance, which made it hard to see,” Faulkner said.
The highway improvements represent an $892,000 investment for public safety and tourism, allowing campers, golfers and other visitors improved access to the golf course and other recreational facilities at Grayson Lake.
