Crash into floodwall kills man Thursday
ASHLAND - An Ashland man died early Thursday when he crashed his sport-utility vehicle, apparently intentionally, into the Ohio River floodwall, according to police.
Christopher Owen Sidell hit the floodwall at 29th Street head-on sometime around 5:30 a.m., according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the man crashed on purpose but declined to release any more information.
MSU open house set for Oct. 4
MOREHEAD - Morehead State University’s Office of Enrollment Services will host an Open House from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 in the Adron Doran University Center.
University representatives will meet students and families, answer questions, lead campus tours and share information concerning college life.

OLBH sponsoring 5K run at Greenup
RUSSELL - Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital will sponsor a 5K race at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Greenup County Courthouse.
The run is part of the 43rd annual Greenup Old Fashion Days. Race registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Greenup Christian Church Family Life Center on Main Street. Entry fee is $15 if received before Sept. 20 and $20 after. The first 150 entrants will receive a race T-shirt. Awards will be presented in each age category.

Night work will begin on Ky. 32
MOREHEAD - Contractors will work evenings next week to blacktop a half-mile stretch of Ky. 32 through downtown Morehead.
The resurfacing, part of a $151,000 Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract awarded to Hinkle Contracting Corp., will improve pavement conditions from Mabry Street to Main Street.
The project will start Monday and should take two to four nights to complete, weather permitting. Crews plan to work between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day, which should lessen traffic impacts on the busy highway.
Flatwoods to have homecoming party
FLATWOODS - The fifth annual Flatwoods Homecoming will be Sept. 13 at Flatwoods Park on Reed Street.
Opening ceremonies begin at noon and the guest of honor will be former Police Chief Noel “Buddy” Gallion.
Live music begins at 1 p.m. There will be a motorcycle, antique car and farm equipment show, children’s games and inflatables and food vendors in the park.
As part of the celebration, there is a pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at Advance Methodist Church.
Tuesday Northeast meeting canceled
OLIVE HILL - The Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency, Inc., Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.
Gamers invited to LAN party
ASHLAND - Computer-gamers age 16 and older are invited to a “Back-to-School LAN Party” from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Ashland Community and Technical College.
It will be on the third floor of the Goodpaster Building at the College Drive Campus.
The party is a gathering to play networked computer games. LAN stands for Local Area Network. About 60 attended ACTC’s first LAN party, organized last spring by ACTC and Boyd County High School information technology students.
“Information technology, networking and video games seem to go hand-in-hand, and our technology-minded students tend to gravitate to these games for their entertainment,” said Chris Boggs, an assistant professor of Information Technology at ACTC. “We encourage people to come to the LAN party for a chance to interact with others who share their interest in computer technology and the latest games.”
The party will include information on Fast Track programs in Cisco and Microsoft networking, as well as other Information Technology options.
