Carter drug task force to receive grant

Washington — U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, R-4th, recently announced the Carter County Drug Task Force will receive a $125,000 Drug-Free Communities federal grant to prevent and reduce youth drug and alcohol use in the area.

“Efforts to keep our youth drug-free are critical to healthy communities in the Fourth District,” Davis said. “The Drug Free Communities Program recognizes the great potential that the Carter County Drug Task Force has to help save kids’ lives. This new funding will allow Carter County to mobilize and organize its communities in the effort to prevent and reduce substance abuse.”

John Walters, director of the National Drug Control Policy, said, “Coalitions like the Carter County Drug Task Force are important partners in pushing back against the harms of drug use.”

“The Drug Free Communities program helps communities get the hard work of prevention done,” said Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Administrator Terry Cline, Ph.D.

“By connecting local programs, systems, and funding streams through these new grants, the full force of the community will be brought to bear on preventing drug abuse and promoting healthy, productive lives.”
