Oral cancer screenings at OLBH
RUSSELL -Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital otolaryngologist/ ENT Jon A. Brinkman will conduct free screenings for oral cancers from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at his office in suite 350 of the OLBH Same Day Surgery Center.
The screenings are to detect for abnormalities and are especially important for past or present smokers and users of tobacco.
Brinkman specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, head and neck disorders.

Drug bust leads to arrest in Summit
SUMMIT - A Summit man has been charged with first-degree drug trafficking in the investigation of drug activity, according to a statement from the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department.
James B. Barton, 36, was arrested after deputies found large amounts of prescription drugs and cash at his residence Friday, according to the statement.
Barton confessed to selling the drugs and said he had been getting them from Florida pain clinics, according to the statement.
Lawrence to release financial report
LOUISA - The Lawrence County Board of Education’s annual financial treasurer’s report for the 2007-08 fiscal year will be available for review at the Lawrence County Public Library on West Madison Street, Louisa or at the board office, 50 Bulldog Lane.
It will be available for review beginning Tuesday during regular business hours. For additional information, contact Edris Humphrey at (606) 638-9671. The 2007-08 Annual Financial Report on display is subject to an annual audit.
Steelworkers to host convention party
ASHLAND - The United Steelworkers Local 1865 are hosting a Democratic National Convention Park at the Steelworkers Hall, 734 Carter Avenue, Thursday night from 7:30 until the convention closes.
Refreshments will be served and several televisions will be in service to view the convention. The event is open to the public and local democrats and union members are encouraged to attend.
