2 Boyd roads to get blacktop
CANNONSBURG - Contractors expect to resurface Cannonsburg Road and Boy Scout Road in Boyd County in the coming weeks.
Weather permitting, Mountain Enterprises Inc. will begin paving operations on Cannonsburg Road (Ky. 3294) on Friday. Work will take place along 3.8 miles of the roadway, from U.S. 60 to Ky. 538, through at least Aug. 29.
Paving on three miles of Boy Scout Road (Ky. 1012) — from U.S. 60 to Ky. 168 — should start Sept. 2 and take about a week.
The work represents a nearly $490,000 investment to state highways in Boyd County.
During the project, motorists will encounter one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers.
Greenup pageant deadline today
GREENUP - The deadline is today for the Greenup County Fair Pageant, which takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the opening night of the fair. It is open to girls ages 16 to 21 from Greenup, Carter, Lewis and Boyd counties.
Rehearsal will be Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

German teen seeking home
ASHLAND - CET USA, a foreign exchange organization, is looking for a home this fall for a 16-year-old German boy who wants to attend an American high school for five months.
The student’s dream is to become a professional pianist. He tutors other students in math, speaks Latin and English and enjoys soccer, cooking and animals. He will also attend church with his host family, the release stated.

Announcement set for library district
OLIVE HILL - A public announcement for the creation of the Olive Hill Public Library District takes place today at 10 a.m. at the Olive Hill Public Library at 115 Mills St.
The purpose is to provide free and equitable library service to the citizens of Olive Hill and the surrounding areas in Carter County.
