Police beat: 8/14/08

The following information was taken from Ashland Police Department reports:

Robbery

‰ A woman living in the 2200 block of Woodland Avenue reported she was robbed at her home on Friday.

The victim told police the holdup occurred about 4:30 p.m. The robber reportedly made off with $375 cash and another unspecified item valued at $25.

The robber was armed with a handgun, according to records. No other details were immediately available.

Auto theft

‰A London man was arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing a vehicle from the parking lot of an Ashland motel.

Elvis Thacker, 49, was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, charged with receiving stolen property, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.

According to the APD, a woman staying at the Four Seasons Motel, 2317 Winchester Ave., reported someone had stolen her 1991 Ford ranger pickup. A description of the stolen vehicle was broadcast to area law enforcement agencies, and a Catlettsburg police officer spotted the truck on U.S. 23 a short time later.

Drug arrests

‰ An Ashland woman was charged with felony drug possession Tuesday after police found oxycodone on her while she was being processed at the Boyd County Detention Center.

Rachel L. Rice, of the 1600 block of 39th Street, was being booked at the jail after being arrested by the APD on a warrant charging her with failure to appear when the pills were discovered.

‰ Two Greenup County residents were arrested early Tuesday morning at Wal-Mart on felony drug possession charges.

Darrah L. Rice of Wurtland and James D. Farr of Greenup also were charged with misdemeanor drug possession and with public intoxication, according to records.

‰ Michael D. Boyd, of the 2300 block of Winchester Avenue, was arrested on Monday at his residence on a felony drug possession charge.

Burglary

‰ The Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4009 Hart St., reported on Sunday someone had broken in and stolen computer equipment and other items, all valued at $1,300.

‰ Clothing, guns, tools and other items with a combined value of $2,265 were reported stolen on Tuesday in a burglary at a residence in the 500 block of Gartrell Street.

‰ A man living in the 200 block of Fleming Court reported on Tuesday an unspecified item valued at $190 was stolen in a burglary at his home.

Fugitive arrest

‰ Josh D. Brofford, of the 2100 block of Stephens Street, was arrested Friday on a warrant charging him with being a fugitive from another state. Brofford also was charged with third-degree assault on a police officer and terroristic threatening.

Fleeing, evading

‰ Zachary K. Mahaney of Ironton was arrested on Saturday on 13th Street on a felony charge of fleeing or evading police. Mahaney also was charged with driving under the influence and with improper start.

Theft

‰ EZ Electric of Huntington reported on Monday tools valued at $2,975 were stolen from one of its vehicles while it was parked in the 1000 block of Greenup Avenue.

‰ An Ashland man reported on Friday an unspecified item valued at $2,026 was stolen from him in the 3600 block of 13th Street.

Shoplifting

‰ A Huntington woman was arrested on Sunday after she allegedly tried to steal merchandise valued at $298.46 from Wal-Mart.

‰ An Olive Hill man was arrested on Friday at Wal-Mart for allegedly trying to make off with items valued at $98.54.

‰ A Westwood man was arrested on Friday after he allegedly tried to take merchandise valued at $23 from Ashland Beverage Center, 744 Seventh St.
