OLBH announces Dinner at Tiffany’s honorees

Staff report
The Independent

RUSSELL Elle Berry and Larry Fields, M.D., have been announced as the honorees for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s Dinner at Tiffany’s celebration.

Dinner at Tiffany’s is OLBH’s fifth annual, elegant, black-tie cocktail, dinner and dance party at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Ashland-Boyd County Regional Airport in Worthington.

The Community Service Award for 2008 will be bestowed upon Berry. A native of New York City, Berry moved to the Ashland area in 1969 and has worked tirelessly to better the community, including being an OLBH volunteer for nearly 30 years. She has served as president of the hospital’s auxiliary and as a member of the OLBH Foundation board.

Additionally, Berry has lent her time and talents to such diverse organizations/causes as Meals on Wheels, Community Kitchen, the Kentucky Highlands Museum, Ashland Oil Wives, Garden Club, Festival of Trees and the Huntington Museum of Art. Berry is a Kentucky Colonel and a fellow of the University of Kentucky.

The fifth annual Physician Hero Award will be presented to longtime OLBH family practitioner Larry Fields, M.D. Fields has played a significant role in the hospital’s history and has demonstrated the ability to go above and beyond the call of duty to serve those in need. Fields is senior partner at Family Medicine Center, on the OLBH campus.

Fields served as the 59th president of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is a clinical professor at the University of Kentucky in Lexington and the University of Louisville. Fields is a member of the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians, where he served as president from 1992 to 1993. He has served as legislative chair of the chapter and chair of the Kentucky Chapter Foundation. The Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians chose Fields as Citizen Doctor of the Year in 2001 and he received the Preceptor of the Year award from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1999.

Dinner, dancing, live entertainment, a silent auction and door prizes are all planned for Dinner at Tiffany’s. Proceeds from the event will support community needs including health initiatives.

Through its Healthy Community Services program, OLBH will utilize Dinner at Tiffany’s proceeds to establish, build and expand relationships with community organizations, service providers, government agencies, faith communities and businesses all in an effort to address and strengthen the healthcare and other safety nets of the region.

Sponsorship and ticket information for Dinner at Tiffany’s is available by calling the OLBH Foundation at (606) 833-3956 or (606) 833-3777.
