Four people were hospitalized Thursday night following a head-on collision on Hoods Creek Pike.
Kentucky State Police are reconstructing the accident, which occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. near the intersection with French Broad Street.
According to Westwood Deputy Chief Tim England, the drivers of both vehicles were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital, and two passengers were taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center.
The names of the accident victims and their current conditions were not immediately available, but England said a man and a woman were transported by helicopter. The victims were airlifted from the Fairview High School Football field.
The woman was driving a Mercedes up the hill from U.S. 23, while the male driver was in an SUV with two passengers driving toward U.S. 23, England said.
The man was ejected from the vehicle and the woman had to be extracted. England said he did not know the conditions of any of the patients, but said the man was the most seriously injured.
The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident but the KSP was called in to reconstruct the accident. The Ashland Fire Department also assisted.
