Indian Run Road annexation OK'd

Flatwoods —
The city got a little bigger Tuesday evening.
The Flatwoods City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to annex property near Indian Run Road into the city.
Michael Wheeler, a developer for Tri-State Construction, said he’s adding 32 more lots to Indian Heritage Subdivision near the edge of Flatwoods city limits.
About four out of the 15 acres he’ll start work on soon were outside city limits, he said.
Wheeler requested the city annex the property because it will allow new homes to have access to city utilities as well as sevices such as the ambulance and the fire department.
Mayor Bobby Crager said the annexation would have little effect on the city except to bring in new taxes.
Indian Heritage Subdivision currently has 12 lots of about one-fourth to one-third of an acre. New lots will be about one-half to three-fourths of an acre.
Many houses in the new development will be five-star energy rated and supplied by Nationwide Custom Homes.
The houses will be built in Virginia and will be 70 percent complete with plumbing, sheet rock, most trimmings and paint when put onto foundations in the development, Wheeler said. They take about 100 days to complete after set on the foundation.
They are more geen because they have more insulation and create less than 1 percent of waste when built, he said.
“I think people are wanting to try to do things more green,” Wheeler said.
He said he’s hoping to build all of the homes through Nationwide, but would discuss other options with clients.
This is the second phase of the Indian Heritage Subdivision. The first included 12 lots and began about four years ago.
Three homes in the first phase were energy-efficient homes from Nationwide.
Construction will begin on the first two houses of the new phase in late August or early September.
