Ram Jam celebration scheduled

Saturday event is for all with connections to Raceland school

Tim Preston/The Independent

Raceland Still reeling from his own 40-year class reunion, Terry Stevens is spreading the word about the 80-Year Ram Jam set for Saturday at Raceland-Worthington High School.

“We’re trying to show Ram pride on this,” Stevens said this week, explaining the gathering is for “anybody who’s ever graduated, worked or walked through Raceland.”

Stevens said he and others wanted to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the school’s campus, and will direct proceeds from the $3 admission donation to help support a wall of fame at the high school featuring Raceland students who have gone on to help their communities in various ways.

“This will be something for adults just as much as young people,” he said, explaining inflatable games at the high school football field will be sports themed, with prizes in categories including fastest throw.

The event will get under way with a parade through Raceland “and maybe through Worthington, too,” Stevens said, starting a few minutes after 2 p.m. Participants will then gather at the football field for games and prizes, as well as activities and concessions and crafts by Ironton’s “Purse Lady.”

Music for the event will begin at 7 p.m. in the old gymnasium with the Bottomline bluegrass band, rock ‘n’ roll from the band Youngblood at 8 p.m. and country music from singer Rachel Hannah. There will be a possible repeat performance by Bottomline and songs provided by a DJ later in the evening.

“We just hope we will have a lot of people come together and celebrate this milestone together at the 80-Year Ram Jam,” Stevens said. “Everyone is invited.”
