Davis named chief regional district judge for region

A Boyd County judge has been re-appointed to a regional judicial post. — A Boyd County judge has been re-appointed to a regional judicial post.

District Judge George W. Davis III was recently named vice chief regional district judge of the state’s Mountain Region by John D. Minton, chief justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court.

The Mountain Region consists of Bath, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Pike, Powell, Rowan and Wolfe counties.

Chief regional judges are responsible for assigning special judges in cases of conflict or vacancies and may serve in the absence of any judge within their region. They also supervise the administrative business of the courts in their regions and provide general direction and supervision to the non-judicial personnel assigned to those courts.

A vice chief regional judge, such as Davis, manages the administrative functions of the court when the chief judge is unavailable. Regional judges are appointed for two-year terms.

In addition to Davis, judges reappointed by Minton in the Mountain Region were John David Caudill, chief regional circuit judge; Eddy Coleman, vice chief regional circuit judge; and Susan M. Johnson, chief regional district judge.

Caudill and Coleman are circuit judges in Floyd and Pike counties, respectively. Johnson’s district is comprised of Johnson, Lawrence and Martin counties.

“The judges selected for the regional appointments have the respect of their fellow judges and are equipped with the knowledge and experience to successfully fulfill their duties,” Minton said. “I am confident in their ability to ensure that the court system is effectively carrying out justice for our citizens.”
