Carter woman charged with assaulting trooper

— A Carter County woman who allegedly got into a scuffle with Kentucky State Police troopers, who came to serve her with several misdemeanor warrants, is now facing additional charges — one of them a felony — as a result of the fracas.
Tena R. Pennington, 42, of Hitchins, was charged with third-degree assault on a peace officer, a Class D felony that carries a prison term of one to five years.
According to a news release from the Ashland KSP post, troopers arrived at Pennington’s home in the 7600 block of Ky. 1 about 5:15 p.m. to serve her with warrants charging her with two counts of menacing, one count of harassment and two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening.
The troopers entered Pennington’s home and found her in a bedroom. Pennington then allegedly struck Trooper Shane Copley in the face with a broom handle.
Pennington also was charged with resisting arrest as a result of the altercation, the KSP said.
Copley sustained a minor injury from the assault, according to the KSP.
Pennington was lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.
The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Brittany McMaine.
