Man arrested in Carter assault
GRAYSON - Police have arrested a Carter County man for allegedly stabbing and beating another man.
John Jackson, 41, of Grayson, was charged with first-degree assault for allegedly attacking 34-year-old Fred Malone, also of Grayson.
The assault occurred early Monday morning at Malone’s home. The victim was struck several times in the head with a blunt object and stabbed several times, police said.
Malone was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Police have not released a motive for the attack but said the two men knew each other.
Board member will be sworn in
SUMMIT - The Boyd County Board of Education will meet in special session at 7 p.m. Thursday.
A newly appointed board member, Tammy Pruitt, will be sworn in at the meeting. Other business to be discussed includes property acquisition and contract negotiations.
The meeting will be at the school district’s offices at 1104 Bob McCullough Drive.
Motorists advised about mowing
FLEMINGSBURG - Motorists should remain aware of contractors and highway crews mowing roadsides in northeast Kentucky throughout the summer months.
Contractors are working along Interstate 64 and U.S. 23, and plan to start mowing along the A-A Highway next week.
In addition, Department of Highways District 9 crews conduct mowing operations each summer along state routes in Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas and Rowan counties.
Motorists are asked to be on the lookout for mowing crews and to use extra caution when driving through a mowing zone.
Fast-moving traffic is intimidating for highway workers, including those on mowing tractors. That’s why the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks the public to help put safety first by slowing down and using appropriate discretion when crews are working.
The Cabinet spends about $25 million annually for mowing and litter removal statewide. About 75 percent of the work is performed by contractors.
