3 charged in railroad track thefts

— Three Kentucky men face federal charges of conspiring to steal and sell an estimated $190,000 worth of railroad tracks from Norfolk Southern.
A federal indictment filed Tuesday in Huntington charges 65-year-old Clarence Meadows of Paintsville, Ky.; 41-year-old Thomas G. Hamilton of Pikeville, Ky.; and 34-year-old C. Roby Meadows of Mt. Sterling, Ky., with conspiracy and interstate transportation of stolen goods.
The indictment charges that the men stole railroad tracks and other track material in the Kermit area from July 2004 to November 2004. The material was taken to Salyersville, Ky., and sold for scrap.
The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr.
