Despite high humidity and heat, two dozen skaters recently put their skills to the test during a mini-competition in Grayson celebrating Go Skateboarding Day.
The local skaters and guests participated in a downhill obstacle course, best trick and longest jump off a launch ramp competition organized and conducted by the Carter County Skateboarding Association in celebration of the sixth annual International Go Skateboarding Day, which is observed on the first day of summer each year at skateparks around the world.
The competition was in Grayson to help promote the group’s goal of building a skatepark in Carter County and just having a fun time. Skaters came from Kentucky, Ohio and Arizona with ages ranging from 8 to 27 to take part in the competition. Skills ranged from beginner to intermediate.
Winners in each category were:
Down Hill Obstacle Course (ages 11 and younger) — first, Cameron Neal of Wurtland; second, Hunter Campbell of Grayson; and third, Elli Evans of Grayson.
Down Hill Obstacle Course (ages 12 and older) — first, Zack Willis of Ashland; second, Jay Boyd of Phoenix, AZ; and third, Enock Evans from Grayson.
Best Trick (ages 11 and younger) — first, Cameron Neal of Wurtland; second, Hunter Campbell of Grayson; and third, Elli Evans of Grayson.
Best Trick (Ages 12 and older) — first, Zack Willis of Ashland; second, Broghan Bush of Grayson; and third, Fenner Morse of Grayson.
Longest Jump off a launch ramp (all ages): Broghan Bush of Grayson.
Another CCSA competition for this fall will be planned at a Parent Advisory Board meeting at 7:15 p.m. July 16.
CCSA is trying to connect with other skaters interested in helping with its quest to build a skatepark and invite skaters and parents to join them at 6:30 p.m. July 2 and July 16 at the First Church of Christ Family Life Center, Third and Pomeroy Streets in Grayson.
