MSU a host campus for GSP

Morehead — For the fourth straight summer, Morehead State University is a host campus for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program.

The 2009 GSP opens today and runs through July 24. During the program, scholars will be divided into sections of 19 where they will participate in various academic, arts and enrichment activities.

Each student will have a major and secondary area of study with day and evening classes and seminars, all while living in campus housing.

Charles Myers, an MSU alumnus and former director of admissions, will again serve as GSP campus director. He is chairman of the social studies department and a faculty member at Lexington Catholic High School.

“We are excited about sharing the campus with some of Kentucky’s top high school students,” MSU President Wayne D. Andrews said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity as we move toward our goal of becoming the best public regional university in the South.”

Established in 1983, GSP was designed for outstanding Kentucky students who have completed their junior year.

The five-week, residential summer program provides academic and personal growth in a challenging, nontraditional environment that balances a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.

Bellarmine University in Louisville and Centre College in Danville also will host the 2009 program.

A campus reunion for those who attended the 2008 GSP at MSU was Tuesday.
