Wrestling meets Summer Motion

‘Pinned in the Park’ to take place July 4

By CARRIE STAMBAUGH

ASHLAND Get ready for a rumble in Central Park.

Summer Motion, in conjunction with New Ohio Championship Wrestling, will present an afternoon of professional wrestling action on July 4.

“Pinned in the Park” will feature family-friendly professional wrestling action. The event is free and open to the public.

Bell time is 2 p.m. with a pre-event autograph party at 12:30 p.m. The event will be in the park near Lexington Avenue and Chuck Woolery Boulevard.

The main event will feature former friends and partners squaring off in a grudge match. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling star “The Natural” Andy Douglas will battle “Wrestling Extraordinaire” Sigmon with “Sweet” Scotty Ace by his side.

Douglas, a former member of Ace’s “House of Cards,” has vowed revenge against his former stablemates and will try to extract it in Ashland.

In a match for the National Wrestling Association All-Star Title, the champion, “Pretty Boy” Stan Lee will defend his title against local favorite “Superstar” Shane Matthews. The two have battled for the title in the past.

Another exciting match will feature NWA Nashville wrestling star “The Headliner” Chris Michaels as he takes on the young lion “Loaded Gun” Kris Kannon in a “Number One Contenders Match.” Michaels and Kannon have fought their way up the New OCW rankings and the winner of this match will get a title shot.

“The Black SuperMan” Onyx will square off against WWE trainee Johnny Punch in a bonus round. Onyx is one of the strongest men in wrestling and Punch is an up and coming star whose proven he’s ready for the competition.

Summer Motion President Chuck Charles said organizers are excited about the latest addition to Summer Motion. “We really try to do things for everybody and this is an opportunity we can bring in entertainment that people will enjoy,” he said, “I think it will be fun for a lot of people and something different.”

“Summer Motion is for everyone. We’ve got to be able to cover a lot of different likes for people and this is just another way of doing it,” said Charles.

Scotty Russell, also known as Sweet Scotty Ace, is a talent coordinator with the New OWC. He said the organization is looking forward to bringing its act to Central Park. “We want a good show and we want the fans to come out and support the guys they love and boo the guys they hate and have a good time,” Russell said.

The New OWC is a family-friendly wrestling show and one that he brings his own small children to see, Russell said. It features no blood, foul language or half-naked women.

“The guys that we bring in are trained professionals. They are licensed by the state of Kentucky. We take pride in the fact that we’re different than a lot of organizations. They (attendees) are going to see a good wrestling event,” Russell said.

The New OWC holds events at the National Guard Armory and at local churches. A fundraiser for Nazarene Missions International and Ashland Community Kitchen is scheduled for Friday at the Ashland Plaza Church of the Nazarene in Russell. Doors open at 6 p.m. Bell time is at 7:30 p.m.
