Rain postpones openers

RACELAND The first round of the 63rd District Tournament was shortened by rain on Monday, leaving Lewis County and Russell in a 7-7 tie.

The two teams will pick up where they left off today at 5 p.m. at Raceland-Worthington High School.

Raceland and Greenup County will face off in the second game at approximately 7 p.m.

The Red Devils will bat in the bottom of the fourth inning when play resumes. Eric Conley is due up to lead off the inning.

The Red Devils strung out nine hits off of Lions pitcher Jeremy Lykins, while the Lions have tallied eight hits off of Russell’s Tyler DeHoff and B.J. Hamilton.

Errors were costly for both teams on Monday.

Lewis County (15-11) made two errors in the first inning, jumpstarting a four-run inning for Russell.

Russell (11-15) made five errors in the fourth inning, which allowed Lewis County to score two runs to leave the game locked up in a tie.

DeHoff had two hits, including a three-run triple, before play was suspended.

Lykins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
