Wayne forest volunteers sought
Pedro —
The Wayne National Forest is seeking volunteers for plant and wildlife projects in the Ironton Ranger District this spring and summer.
Projects will include removing invasive plants, collecting native plant seeds and improving habitats for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
The following projects are scheduled:
‰May 8 and 24, garlic mustard pulling at Little Storms Creek special area.
‰May 27 and June 6, native plant potting.
‰June 24, native seed collecting.
‰July 12 and 25, stiltgrass cutting.
‰Aug. 9 and 22, native seed collecting.
The volunteer opportunities are near the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area off Ohio 93 between Ironton and Pedro.
Volunteer hours are flexible. Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate.
Volunteers should dress for outdoor work with pants, sturdy boots and long-sleeved shirts. Pack a snack or lunch and adequate water.
On the day of the event, volunteers will meet at the Ironton Ranger District office at 6518 Ohio 93 at 9 am. Those who arrive at a different time may call (740) 534-6535 for directions to the site.
