Chelsea Clinton in Ashland today

ASHLAND - Chelsea Clinton will be back in the state today, making several stops in support of her mother’s presidential campaign.

Miss Clinton will be at Hillary Clinton’s campaign headquarters in Ashland this morning between 8:30 and 9:30 for an open house.

She’ll then visit Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood before traveling to Lexington for a campaign.

It’s the latest in a number of appearances by Miss Clinton ahead of Kentucky’s primary on May 20.

Though Mrs. Clinton's campaign has struggled in recent weeks, she has vowed to fight on.

Miss Clinton said during an event in Frankfort last week her family will continue to work hard in an effort to mount a comeback against Democratic rival Barack Obama.

ASHLAND - The Boyd County Democratic Women’s Club, in cooperation with the Boyd County Democratic Party, will host a bean dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at United Steelworkers Local 1865 at 734 Carter Ave.

The event allows Democrats to meet local candidates running for public office in the May 20 primary, said Boyd County Democratic Chairman Marcus Woodward.

Tickets are available from area Democrats or at the door for $5.

Mongiardo backs Obama campaign

FRANKFORT - Kentucky Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo endorsed Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Sunday, less than two weeks before Obama faces rival Hillary Clinton in the state Democratic presidential primary on May 20.

Mongiardo said Obama can unite the Democratic Party and build a coalition with independents and Republicans before the general election in November.

Mongiardo, a surgeon, also praised Obama's health care plan, which would cut medical costs for all families.

Gov. Steve Beshear, a superdelegate, has yet to announce the candidate he will back at the Democratic National Convention his summer.

Monthly prayer breakfast Tuesday

ASHLAND - The Monthly Community Prayer Breakfast will be Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church at 2901 Winchester Ave.

The meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. and last about an hour. It is open to all denominations.

A faith offering is given with proceeds going to the Ashland Community Kitchen.

More than $18,300 has been donated to the Community Kitchen and the now closed Sparrow’s Nook through these offerings.
