A fundraising event on Saturday will benefit Tim Stevens, who needs a second bone marrow/stem cell transplant for relapsing non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
Two perfect donors found through the national registry are waiting for him.
The fundraiser will be at the Ashland National Guard Armory from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a silent auction, food and music.
Those wishing to help with donations of time, items for the auction or other fundraising ideas may call (606) 324-9734.
Also, donations can be placed at any Fifth Third Bank. Ask for the Timothy Stevens Transplant Fund.
Stevens, 44, is known for his political activism and community service work with the Boy Scouts and his local church.
Stevens was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in March 2006 and received a related transplant in October of that year. However, his cancer returned in December. He is undergoing chemotherapy in preparation for a transplant.
Marrow donor awareness pamphlets will be distributed at the event. A Marrow Donor Virtual Drive continues through May 19 at www.marrow.org.
