Man hit, killed by train in Ironton

— A 29-year-old man walking on the tracks was hit and killed by a train in Ironton on Friday night, according to the Ironton Police Department.
David Monroe, of 503 Vernon St. in Ironton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occured around 9:30 in the 600 block of North Second Street on the west end of town. Monroe was attempting to cross the tracks in front of a northbound Northfork & Southern train.
No foul play is suspected but the incident is still under investigation by the Ironton Police Department and Lawrence County Coroner's office.
Police said the location where the accident occurred was not a designated crossing area.
