Speaker: Prayer solution to world’s problems
By MARK MAYNARD
The Independent
ASHLAND —
Kelly Wright says the solution to the world’s problems isn’t in the hands of politicians or government.
It’s in prayer, he said.
Wright, a Fox News Channel reporter based in the network’s Washington, D.C., bureau, was the keynote speaker for the 11th annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast at King’s Daughters Medical Center on Thursday morning.
“The shortest distance between the problem and the solution is on your knees in prayer,” Wright told a packed audience at the KDMC Health Education Center. “You’ve got to think about prayer. If prayer is missing in your life then solutions are missing in your life.”
Wright’s testimony included talking about his time prior to landing a reporter job with Fox News Channel. He was working local television when he lost his job for six months. But Wright never gave up on God.
“God wanted to see what I would do in that test,” Wright said. “He does take care of his own. My life and where I am today is because of an attitude of prayer.”
In 2004, Wright spent nearly three months reporting on the developments in Iraq. He was among the first reporters to cover the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the subsequent court martial cases in Baghdad.
Wright also spent time embedded with U.S. and British troops, reporting on the military’s humanitarian efforts in Baghdad, Basrah and Mosul.
“You want to make America stronger? It begins on your knees in prayer,” Wright said. “Faithfulness is something that prayer breeds. We need to become faithful to his vision for our lives.”
Beyond Iraq, Wright extensively covered the 2004 presidential election. As a weekend news anchor in Raleigh, N.C., he secured numerous rare interviews, including a 1996 exclusive with O.J. Simpson following the criminal court trial.
Music was provided by the Nashville Christian group 33Miles and Wright, who did some gospel singing between reporting jobs.
