‘Birdie’ auditions set at Raceland

RACELAND - Additional auditions for “Bye Bye Birdie,” to be presented this summer at the Greenbo Amphitheatre, will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Raceland-Worthington High School’s Cultural Arts Center.

School accepting site nominations

CATLETTSBURG - Ponderosa Elementary is taking parent nominations to the site-based council.

Nominations are being accepted until 3 p.m. May 9.

Parents of students who will be in kindergarten through 5th grade during the 2008-09 school year are eligible to serve on the council and to vote for parent members of the council.

The election will be May 13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the front lobby of the school.

New hair salon opens in Argillite

ARGILLITE - There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony tonight from 6 to 8 for a new hair salon opening in Argillite.

Looks Unlimited LLC will have its grand opening under owner Alicen Moore-Boyles. The business is off Ky.1 near the Argillite Post Office.

Vocational classes offered to adults

RUSSELL - The Russell Area Technology Center is offering classes for adults in electricity, welding, drafting or computer skills.

The school utilizes state-of-the-art technology, equipment and certified instructors.

Evening adult classes can be arranged for a small fee per course to pay for materials, supplies and instructor. Classes will last for 10 weeks, two evenings per week for 21/2 to 3 hours per day.

Minimum enrollment is 10 per class.

Mother’s Day auction at mall

ASHLAND - A silent basket auction for Mother’s Day will take place at Ashland Town Center.

Community non-profit groups are invited to set up on May 10 for a silent basket auction. All proceeds from the silent basket auction will go to the organization supplying the basket.

“We are inviting non-profit groups from the Tri-State area to participate in this event,” said Jaime Bloss, Marketing Director for the Ashland Town Center. “The non-profit groups supply the baskets, work their table during the event and they keep 100 percent of the proceeds.”

The silent auction will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. Each group may have up to five baskets with a minimum bid of $20 per basket.

At the end of the event, the nonprofit group must contact the winning bidder of the basket.

Bicycle riding resumes Saturday

ASHLAND - Ashland’s informal bicycle riding will continue Saturday morning at 10, starting at Starbucks, weather permitting.

The eco-friendly tour had eight riders in its debut last week. Most of the course the riders take is flat, according to organizer Cheryl Spriggs.
