Foundation deadlines nearing

March ends project ideas and award applications

Staff report

GREENUP Funds at the Foundation for the Tri-State Community Inc. — one that provides money for projects that enhance Greenup County’s natural beauty and several that offer scholarships to current and prospective college students — are nearing submission deadlines, according to Mary Witten Wiseman, president of the foundation.

The Greenup County Green Fund is currently looking for projects that will enhance the county’s natural beauty.

The deadline for applications is March 31. Awards are expected to be made by April 30. Detailed application information is available from the foundation at (606) 324-3888 or may be picked up at the foundation’s offices on the second floor of 1999 Winchester Ave., Ashland.

The foundation also awards more than 20 scholarships. Some scholarships are available for students from Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, while others are linked to certain high schools, financial need or study area. The deadline for the scholarship submissions is Thursday. A detailed list of the scholarships is available on the foundation’s Web site at www.tristatefoundation.org or at school counselors’ offices.

The foundation also is accepting submissions for the AK Steel Self-Reliance Award. This is a cash award, not a scholarship. Information about it also is available on the foundation’s Web site or at school counselors’ offices. Applications must be submitted by Thursday.

It is open only to students from Paul G. Blazer High School, Boyd County High School, Fairview High School, Rose Hill Christian School and Russell High School.

The Foundation for the Tri-State Community is the area’s oldest community foundation.
