Morehead State Public Radio’s 2009 Spring Fundraiser and Membership Drive is scheduled for March 6 through 13.
During this time, MSPR will ask listeners to support the station’s award-winning regional news, educational and entertainment programming. In addition, member gifts support the professional learning environment for students attending Morehead State University.
Regional news, storytelling and educational programming as well as locally-hosted classical, bluegrass, folk, jazz and blues make MSPR a vital part of the community, according to Paul Hitchcock, MSPR general manager.
“Since 1965, we’ve offered programming which is educational, informative and entertaining with an emphasis on preserving and promoting the region’s cultural heritage from the campus of Morehead State University,”Hitchcock said.
Thank you gifts will be available, such as MSPR T-shirts, canvas tote bags and a Best of Americana Crossroads Live, Vol. 6 CD. MSPR also is seeking new listeners and first-time supporters during this membership drive.
“Cookout on the Patio” will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 9 on the patio of MSPR’s studios at MSU. While supplies last, new members to MSPR can enjoy Chef Sam Mason’s special Hot Tchaikovsky and Cheesy Mozart Burgers, or Sous Chef Greg Jenkins’ Barbeque Bach or Handel with Care Burgers. Also meet the MSPR staff.
MSPR’s Annual Spring Used CD Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 11 in the lobby of the Adron Doran University Center. Thousands of used CDs will be available, including classical, jazz, blues, popular and Americana music featuring Bluegrass, country and folk. Proceeds from the CD sale support programming and services and count as a membership to MSPR.
Serving more than 40 counties in East Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia, MSPR broadcasts 24 hours a day in digital audio from the campus of MSU.
In addition, MSPR’s Web site offers many special features including live audio and music Web streams, podcasts, archived audio and videos. In 2006, MSPR was recognized by the Kentucky Arts Council as the recipient of the Media Award through the Governor’s Awards in the Arts.
Gifts to MSPR are tax-deductible and may be made online at www.msuradio.com. Volunteers are needed during the spring fundraiser to help answer phones and welcome guests.
