ASHLAND — Dress of Success RIver Cities will have its fourth annual wine tasting event called “Among Friends” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Savannah’s Restaurant, 1208 Sixth Ave.

Hors d’oeuvres, wines and desserts will be served and a silent auction is planned, as is a special raffle.

The agency will raffle a brand new Oscar De La Renta Bag with a retail value of $3,695. Raffle tickets are $10 each; you don’t have to be present to win, board member Alexis Mattingly said.

“It will come with the original box, bag and tags,” Mattingly said, noting the winner will be chosen during the event. “It would be a beautiful bag for anyone to have.”

Tickets to the wine tasting are $75 each and seating is limited; to purchase tickets, call (304) 522-3011. All proceeds stay local and benefit Dress for Success River Cities, Mattingly said. Ticket sales are limited to 80. “It is designed to be a more intimate and personal event,” she said.

Last year, she said the event raised about $9,000.

“We are able to make a large profit on this event because Savannah's is generous enough to donate all of the wine, food (heavy appetizers) and space,” she said. The event will include about 12 different wines for tasting as well as food such as crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms.

“We also have received through donations fabulous silent auction items, including a one-week stay at a condo in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., a wheelbarrow of wine (always a big hit!), Marshall football tickets, tickets for a trip on the New River Train Excursion and our premier item of two tickets to the Spring 2014 Oscar de la Renta fashion show in New York,” she said, noting there also will be a night at Cafe Cimino Country in in Sutton, W.Va., and a gift certificate to Identity Salon. Tickets are avaialble by invitation only.

“This is a very special and fun event because of the more intimate and smaller setting,” Mattingly said. “It allows attendees to mingle with board members and fellow DFSRC supporters while enjoying great wine, delicious food and a silent auction with great and unique items.”

Money raised goes toward programming and operating budgets.

The organization isn’t only about clothing. Dress for Success River Cities also offers programs to help women prepare for job searches, apply for jobs and get the training they need to join the work force.
