Clothing giveaway will be Saturday
WESTWOOD - Westwood Baptist Church will offer free clothing and miscellaneous items for children, women and men and free health screenings from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Health screenings will include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and oxygen level.
Free refreshments will be served.
The church is at 1820 Hoods Creek Pike.
Russell marathon winners named
RUSSELL - March winners of the Russell Senior Center hand and foot marathon were: first — Junior Bradley; second place — Harry Thomas; third place — Helen “Oz” Snedegar.
The next marathon will be April 28.
AARF supply drive Saturday
ASHLAND - The Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have a supply drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Ashland Walmart.
Items needed include Trifectant industrial cleaner (found at pet supply companies and Amazon.com), industrial squeegees, industrial mops with rag mophead, push broom, metal trash cans with lids, extra-large wire crates, Clorox spray cleaner, disposable gloves, durable leashes and collars, Purina dog, puppy, cat and kitten chow, Nylabones, detergent and dryer sheets, bleach, pine kitty litter, Dawn dishwashing liquid and extra-large heavy-duty garbage bags.
Cathy Queen, a volunteer with AARF, said the specific items are needed for cleanup following an outbreak of distemper at the shelter from an animal transferred from another shelter.
Spring bazaar will be Saturday
SOUTH SHORE - South Shore Church of God Women’s Ministries will host a spring bazaar and vendor event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Easter décor and more will be available from more than a dozen vendors.
Lunch will be available for $5 per person and will consist of either brown beans, cornbread, drink and dessert or two hot dogs, chips, drink and dessert.
The church is at 85 Cecil Robbins Ave.
Library marks poetry month
ASHLAND - The Boyd County Public Library is celebrating National Poetry Month with two events.
The library will sponsor a Book Spine Poem contest throughout the month. To enter, create an original poem using spines of books. Take a photo and either email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or post it on the BCPL Facebook page. The “author” of the poem with the most likes on Facebook will win a poetry book of his or her choice (up to $50 value).
The April teen program is all about poetry, too. The Teen Poetry Slam will be offered twice — at 6 p.m. April 8 at the main branch and at 6 p.m. April 17 at the Kyova branch.

OLDTOWN - A country/gospel music show is planned at 7 p.m. Friday at the Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department.

VANCEBURG - The Rough Riders Saddle Club of Lewis County will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lewis County Extension Office, 284 Second St.
