Grayson Gallery and Art Center to celebrate Women's Month with multiple events

GRAYSON — The Grayson Gallery & Art Center Inc. will present a free screenwriting workshop with filmmaker Allison Anders from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 22 at the gallery at 301 E. Third St.

Anders, an Ashland native and film and television director, has directed many independent films on which she frequently collaborates with fellow UCLA film school graduate Kurt Voss.

There also will be a reception for Anders from 6 to 9 p.m. March 21 at the gallery with traditional and folk music  performed by Janet Thompson with Michael Garvin. Art work will be shown in a sneak preview of more than 50 pieces by women artists. Refreshments will be provided by Catering by Laura (Laura Delaney, professional chef and caterer), all part of the Grayson Gallery's Women in the Arts series in celebration of Women's History Month.

The workshop has been funded primarily by a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for women through the organization's Artist Enrichment Grant. Pre-registration is required via email to graysongallery@gmail.com.

Women, especially those in Carter County and surrounding areas, who are interested in creative writing, film and screenwriting are encouraged to attend the events, gallery coordinator Dan Click said.

Events at the gallery will continue through the end of March with the monthly F!nal Fr!days Art Walk set from 6 to 9 p.m. March 28, part of an opening reception for Women in the Arts Art Show, which will showcase visual artworks by women dedicated to their individual media, including culinary arts with refreshments by Tabatha Reed of Healthy Alternatives.
