ASHLAND — AARF event slated for Friday

ASHLAND - The Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have an adoption event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Kentucky Farm Bureau on U.S. 60.

Animals will be available for adoption, AARF items will be for sale and donations of pet food and supplies will be accepted.

Butterfly program will be May 15

ASHLAND - Southern Hills Garden Club will present “Mystical Magical Monarchs Vanishing: Why?” at noon May 15 at the main branch of the Boyd County Public Library.

The program will examine how to create, conserve and protect the monarch butterfly habitat, including information about herbicides, pesticides, GMOs and climate change. Participants will tour the monarch waystation.

Refreshments will be served and free milkweed plugs and flower seeds will be distributed.

Benefit ride set May 24

ASHLAND - Shelter of Hope will host its third annual Harley for the Homeless benefit motorcycle ride May 24, beginning with a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s in Ashland.

Breakfast will be served by local celebrities and volunteers. Tickets may be purchased for $5 at the door or in advance at Shelter of Hope.

Bikers may register at the restaurant from 8 to 10 a.m. Cost is $20 for a single rider and an additional $5 for a second rider. Registered riders will receive a free breakfast and will be eligible for door prizes. A small ceremony to honor veterans is planned, as well as a Blessing of the Bikes.

Kickstands will go up at 10:30 a.m. and the ride will end around 1 p.m. at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg.

Registration for Hot Rod for the Homeless car show will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church; the show will end at 5 p.m. Registration is $10 and includes a free lunch, door prizes and entertainment. Awards will be given for the most patriotic and the popular vote.

Oakview animal supply drive is on

ASHLAND - Oakview Elementary School students are collecting the following items for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at the local animal shelter and dogs and puppies in the Ashland Animal Rescue Fund: towels/sheets/blankets, shampoo/brushes, dry food, toys, rawhide chews and treats.

Collections will continue through May 30.

PAC Party in Pink scheduled May 15

BELLEFONTE - The Paramount Woman’s Association, the fundraising arm of the Paramount Arts Center, will have its annual Party In Pink Dinner and Installation of Officers on May 15 at the Bellefonte Country Club.

An added attraction this year will be a Spring Fling Shopping Extravaganza with local and regional businesses showcasing their businesses by displaying and selling merchandise. Shopping will begin at 4:30 p.m. for PWA members and dinner attendees. Shopping will open to the public from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Vendors interested in participating may email Kathy Layman at disney392@windstream.net and include name, address, phone number(s), business name and type of products sold to receive a registration form. Deadline for registering as a vendor is May 11. Participation requires a 15 percent of sales to the PWA. There are no other setup fees.

Cost for dinner is $25. A cash bar will be available. The deadline for dinner reservations is May 12. PWA membership is not required to attend the dinner, but PWA membership and volunteer opportunities information will be available.
