Breast cancer group to meet Nov. 19
RUSSELL - Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s breast cancer support group will meet at noon Nov. 19 in the Diabetes Education Classroom at Bellefonte Centre (1000 Ashland Drive.)

Bluegrass benefit will be Sunday
FLATWOODS - A bluegrass benefit for Claudette Smith will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Elwood Stringer American Legion Post 325.
Performing will be Ralph Stanley II, Clarence Kelly, Marty Raybon and Wayne Lewis, Sammy Adkins and the Sandy Hook Mountain Boys, the Larry Gillis Band and New Ground with Clarence Gillum.
Raffles and 50/50 are planned.
Smith had five-bypass open heart surgery and a valve replacement in August. After five weeks in the ICU, she was moved to Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland.

Songwriting seminar Nov. 23
PAINTSVILLE - Dean Dillon’s songwriting workshop will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Country Music Museum. The cost is $15.
Dillon is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The event is presented by East Kentucky Arts Association and the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Museum.

Author to speak at JSF Tuesday
ASHLAND - Craig Johnson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Walt Longmire series, will speak and sign books from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday be at the Jesse Stuart Foundation.
Johnson’s series is the basis for “Longmire,” the hit A&E-TV original drama. “Longmire” is A&E’s highest rated scripted program.
Johnson is a Huntington native who went to Huntington East High School and graduated from Marshall University in 1983. Ashland parade apps accepted
ASHLAND - The Winter Wonderland of Lights Festival is accepting registrations for the annual Christmas parade at 7 p.m. Nov. 26.
Registration forms may be obtained by calling (606) 324-5111, visiting the Ashland Alliance office, or downloading from winterwonderlandoflights.com. Parade applications must be received no later than Nov. 18.
The grand marshal will be Jule Huffman, Mr. Cartoon. Escorts will be Rob Johnson and other WSAZ News Channel 3 staffers.
Entries sought for Russell parade
RUSSELL - The Russell Christmas Parade will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.
Those interested in being in the parade are asked to complete an application form and return it to Cheryl Jones, 515 Etna St., Russell KY 41169, before Dec. 2.
Lineup for the parade will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Large entries should be at the top of the viaduct and others at Clinton Street.
