ASHLAND — School family night upcoming


Family Reading and Science Night will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Boyd County Middle School.

Amy Rose from KHEAA (Financial Aid for Colleges) will be available to meet with parents regarding EXPLORE scores. 

The annual Scholastic Book Fair (Library), games, a book walk, craft center to make your own book markers, an “Are You Smarter Than a Seventh-grader” game, live animals to view and Carbo Labs will be open.

Author to visit JSF Tuesday


Craig Johnson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Walt Longmire series, will visit the Jesse Stuart Foundation Bookstore from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnson’s series is the basis for “Longmire,” the hit A&E-TV original drama. “Longmire” is A&E’s highest rated scripted program.

 Johnson, a Huntington native who went to Huntington East High School and graduated from Marshall University in 1983, will speak with visitors and sign books from his popular mystery series. The 10 books, including his latest in the series, “Spirit of Steamboat,” will be available for purchase at the bookstore and online at jsfbooks.com.  Fans can reserve the books they’re wishing to purchase in advance by contacting the bookstore online or by calling (606) 326-1667.

Argentine tango

to be taught


A new series of dance lessons focusing on Argentine tango will start Nov. 17 at the Kyova Mall.

Home tour to

benefit ARTS


The seventh annual Holiday Candlelight House Tour to benefit Arts Resources for the Tri-State will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and the Festival of Wreaths will be from noon to 5 p.m. the same day at First Sentry Bank Lobby.

Eight homes will be on the tour; tickets are on sale and available at the following locations:

Mug and Pia, 939 Third Ave.; Simply Whisk, 901 Fourth Ave.; Justice Glass, 2445 Third Ave.; Magic Makers Costumes, 545 Fourth Ave.; Hatchers On The Hill, 1601 Fifth St. Road; Guiding Light Christian Store at Target Mall; Jeff Hutchison Ins. Services in Proctorville.

Veterans Day

ceremony Sunday


The Greenup County War Memorial Committee will have a Veterans Day celebration at 2 p.m. Sunday at the War Memorial Park.

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., will be the featured speaker. Tony Wilson, the Hammond Family and Kiera Midkiff will provide music. The Greenbo detachment of the Marine Corps League and James L. Flannery Post of the American Legion will assist with the service.

Refreshments will be served by Greenup Amvets Post 95 following the ceremony.
