IRONTON — Trunk or treat will be Thursday

IRONTON - Campbell Chapel Freewill Baptist Church will have its annual trunk or treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church at 1709 Campbell Drive.

The free event aims to provide a safe place for children to receive candy and play games.

Nominees sought for Carter awards

GRAYSON - The deadline for submissions for the 36th annual Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce Community Service Awards is 3 p.m. Dec. 2.

Nominations must be submitted in writing or by email to GACC, P.O. Box 612 or  graysonchamber41143@windstream.net.

Each nomination must include the nominee’s name, address, contact number and a brief but concise summary of the reasons for the nomination.

Nominations may be for Law Officer of the Year; Teacher of the Year; Business Person of the Year; Medical Professional of the Year; the S.U. Pratt Community Service Award to an individual who has excelled at work and accomplishments in the community during the past year; the R.E. Applegate Memorial, a posthumous recognition of a deceased individual who has contributed in a special way to the life of the community; the Keystone of Grayson Award, the chamber’s Hall of Fame award, which honors those who have contributed to the civic, educational, business or spiritual life of the community for a decade or more on a regular, consistent basis; the Dr. Rodney T. Gross Youth Leadership Award to those 22 or younger who have excelled in leadership and volunteerism in the community; or the Agriculture/Farm Family Award to emphasize the importance of agriculture in the community.

SOMC purchases 17 vehicles

PORTSMOUTH - Southern Ohio Medical Center increased its fleet of vehicles after purchasing 17 2013 Toyota Corollas from the Glockner Family of Dealerships. SOMC Home Care will use six of the cars, while the other 11 will benefit SOMC Hospice.

“We have a lot of staff that drive quite a bit in order to bring exceptional patient care directly into our patient’s homes,” said Craig Gilliland, director of Financial Services and Business Development.

“Some are driving more than 10,000 miles a year. That is the staff that will be assigned a company vehicle.”

The cars will not be assigned to individual employees, but rather will be tied to certain jobs, duties and the number of miles driven.

Pancake meal will be Saturday

ASHLAND -The South Ashland Lions Club will have a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church on 18th Street and Carter Avenue.

Proceeds will benefit the vision conservation program and the projects fund.

Old eyeglasses also will be accepted.

BCC bridge winners named

BELLEFONTE - Bellefonte Country Club bridge winners for the week are: first — Bea Matthews; second — Mary Jo Burton; third — Kitty Shaw; fourth — Marilyn Goddard.
