Free tech event scheduled Oct. 30
SOMERSET - The Center for Rural Development will host a free technology event with NetGain Technologies and Hewlett-Packard on Oct. 30
Some of the top leaders in technology will discuss key tools and decision-making strategies to help organizations move to higher levels of efficiency and productivity.
The center, a leading provider of technology solutions in southern and eastern Kentucky, will join NetGain Technologies and Hewlett-Packard — leaders in information technology services — to host “Executive Outlook — Information Technology Trends of 2014” for top-level business executives and organizations looking to get the most from the latest advances in technology.
The IT event, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. and include a complimentary lunch, will include presentations by Keith Schraffenberger, HP data trends and utilization expert; Bryan Jackson, chief technology evangelist and trends expert for IT solutions provider, NetGain Technologies; Brian E. Kiser, executive director of Commonwealth Office of Broadband Outreach and Development; and Larry Combs, director of technology and business services at the center.
Josh Anderson, a Somerset native and former outfielder for the Atlanta Braves, will be the featured speaker.
Elizabeth Burton, director of business development and public relations for the center, will serve as event moderator.

Advance planning seminar offered
GRAYSON - Local attorneys Brian Bayes of the Wilhoit Law Office and Jeffrey Scott of the Scott Law Office will speak at a free advance planning seminar Thursday at Malone Funeral Home at 325 Malone Lane.
Bayes will speak at the 10 a.m. session and Scott will speak at the 6 p.m. session.
Topics to be covered include wills, estates, power of attorney and Medicaid planning.
Also speaking will be Pam Ulery and Delmar Rogers, funeral prearrangement specialists.
Each sessions will be 90 minutes and include refreshments, door prizes and time for questions.
