A collection of folk art will be on display at the Huntington Museum of Art through March.
“Self-taught, Outsider, Visionary: Highlights from the Folk Art Collection” opened this month at the museum. The show consists of a variety of works by artists from Kentucky, West Virginia and other southern Appalachian states. Some of the artists represented include Sala Bosworth, Susannah F. Nicholson, Asa Ames and Eliza Isabella and Means Seaton.
Folk art is considered works created by non-academic artists, making it difficult to categorize and has a rich tradition in the Appalachian regions of the country.
Most of the pieces in this exhibit were acquired by the museum in the 1980s and 1990s.
