The snow kept gospel singer Guy Penrod chilling a little longer than it should have this spring.
He attended a wedding in early April in Green Bay, Wis., during a snowstorm.
“It’s been a bitter winter,” the Texas native said during a telephone interview, noting most of his winter was spent at home in Nashville. “I’m ready for warm weather.”
With warm weather will come the release of his latest CD of worship songs, simply titled “Worship;” it follows last year’s release of “Hymns.” He also recorded a collection of Christmas songs, which is set for release in October.
“‘Worship’ is mainly songs that are familiar to most, depending on how worship oriented their church is,” he said, noting the contents of the CD includes “Shout to the Lord” and “Amazing Love.”
“There is one new song by the author of ‘Revelation’ (Jennie Lee Riddle) titled ‘When Love was Slain,’” he said.
Penrod said he expects he’ll play a variety of styles when he performs April 25 at Bridges Christian Church.
“I’ll mix music up from the Gaither Vocal Band days and I sing a lot of the hymns and I’m finding people really are enjoying them,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s a comfort thing, like your favorite blanket or your favorite pillow, but there seems to be a lot of uncertainty in the world today...I find that people like to be reassured and like familiar things. When we go and show up and sing hymns, people sing right along with it.”
He said he also will perform songs from his 2010 “Breathe Deep” country album.
“We hope the night accomplishes giving people good, positive, uplifting time and time they can sing and enjoy and recharge and go out a little lighter than they came in,” he said, noting he can depend on a good audience in the Ashland area.
“I believe this is the fourth time we’ve played in Ashland,” he said. “We’re excited to come back and we look forward to being with the sweet people there and we look forward to the night together.”
Guy Penrod will perform at 7 p.m. April 25 at Bridges Christian Church, 1402 Kenwood Drive in Russell. Tickets, which are $19, may be ordered by calling (800) 965-9324 or at itickets.com/events.
