SOMERSET — Leadership Day set April 16

SOMERSET - Forward in the Fifth is accepting registration for its 2014 Leadership Day, which will culminate with the announcement of this year’s Appalachian Leaders in Education award winners, at 1 p.m. April 16 at the Center for Rural Development.

Dr. Dessie Bowling, chairwoman of the Forward in the Fifth board of directors, and Jim Tackett, executive director of Forward in the Fifth, will announce and present the AppLE Awards to this year’s award winners.

The awards celebrate excellence in education and are presented to educators, community leaders and students and parents who go above and beyond to advance education in their communities and throughout the region.

Additionally during Leadership Day, schools and community-based organizations throughout the region will share and exhibit an education-related project.

Those planning to attend should call (606) 677-6000 or email fif@centertech.com by April 14. The event is free, but registration is recommended.

Animal clinic offers pet photos

GRAYSON - All Creatures Great and Small Veterinary Care will offer free pet photos with the Easter Bunny from 5 to 7 p.m. April 14.

Pie social will be Saturday

OLDTOWN - The Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual pie social at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Music will be performed by the Oldtown Gospel Heirs. An auction will start at 7 p.m. There will be door prizes and food will be served.
