The movie “Temple Grandin” will be shown at 6 p.m. Monday at the Raceland-Worthington High School Cultural Arts center.
The free HBO-produced movie, sponsored by the school’s autism leadership team, stars Claire Danes as Dr. Temple Grandin who offers inspiration and guidance to those dealing with autism.
There will be free refreshments and door prizes.
Cancer survivor dinner May 10
Relay for Life of Boyd County Cancer Survivor’s will gather for a celebratory dinner at 6 p.m. May 10 at Boyd County Community Center.
This year, American Cancer Society will celebrate 100 years and a major health advancement: two of every three diagnosed with cancer become survivors.

Complete digital editions of hundreds of magazines are now available free of charge to Boyd County Public Library card holders.
Zinio Digital Magazines is the latest electronic resource addition to BCPL’s Internet branch, thebookplace.org. Zinio provides full-color digital magazines, many with interactive elements such as audio and video. Some are magazines that are only available in digital format.
BCPL subscribes to 224 titles. There are magazines on gardening, home, crafts, science, entertainment, food, pets, art, photography, news, technology, off-roading, religion, history, sports, technology and more.
Magazines from Zinio can be ready on a computer or mobile device. Apps are available for iPad, iPhone, Kindle Fire, Android and Blackberry Playbook.
With a BCPL card, you can “check out” as many magazines as you wish — there are no holds or due dates. To access Zinio, you have to create two accounts — one to access the library collection, and a second to view the magazines in a Zinio viewer account.
Zinio for Libraries is a partnership with RBdigital from Recorded Books. Library Journal awarded it Best New Database of 2012.
Zinio Digital Magazines joins several other free download services at thebookplace.org, including OverDrive and Freading (books); and Freegal (music).
Dressmaker to donate to girls in Africa
Morning Pointe Ridge Senior Living Volunteer Carolyn Adams has found another way to help others: She creates dresses from donated material to benefit girls in Africa, Brazil and Peru.
