ASHLAND — Hospice grief sessions offered

ASHLAND - Community Hospice will offer several community-based grief counseling sessions in March.

All Community Hospice grief support groups are open to the public, not just those who have been served by hospice.

Sessions are:

‰Embracing Our Grief — 6 p.m. Thursdays, continues through March 30, Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road.

‰Embracing Our Grief — 3 p.m. Fridays, continues through April 4, Carter County Public Library, Olive Hill.

‰Embracing Our Grief — 2 p.m. Thursdays, March 27 through May 1, Greenup County Public Library, Greenup.

‰Men’s Support Group — 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave.

‰Parents’ Support Group — 6 p.m. bimonthly on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road.      

Group topics vary from week to week, but generally offer participants the opportunity to talk about their loss, understand the grieving process and the cycles of grief, spend time with others who have experienced similar situations and receive guidance in handling other personal matters.

AARF rummage sale upcoming

CANNONSBURG - The Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have its annual rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday  through Sunday at the Kyova Mall.

AARF will accept donations for the sale from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the mall. Items include household goods, furniture, clothing and toys.

‘Pot of Gold’ contest ongoing

PORTSMOUTH - Southern Ohio Medical Center is encouraging its Facebook fans to vote in a new poll to determine the recipient of a $5,000 donation.

 The competition will close on St. Patrick’s Day and, in honor of the holiday, has been titled “SOMC’s Pot of Gold.” It features five local organizations; whoever receives the most votes will be awarded the entire $5,000 donation. The organizations featured are:

‰Portsmouth Area Arts Council and Children’s Theater;

‰Portsmouth Public Library.

‰Scioto County Homeless Shelter.

‰Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America (Tecumseh District).

‰Southern Ohio War Memorial.

The final results will be recorded, and the winner announced, at noon on March 17. Participants in the contest must have a Facebook account and “like” SOMC’s fan page at facebook.com/SouthernOhioMedicalCenter.

Bracelets to be made at library

CATLETTSBURG - The Boyd County Public Library staff will show patrons how to make beaded bracelets at the March adult craft program at the Catlettsburg branch.

The program will be offered at 2 p.m. Saturday and at 6 p.m. March 18. The branch is at 2704 Louisa St.

The library will provide supplies and instruction. No registration is required, but seating is limited.
