Quilt show in Louisa Saturday

LOUISA - Lawrence County Quilted Treasures will have its annual quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence County Extension Office at 249 Industrial Park Road.

The theme for the show is “Stars Over Lawrence County,” which is meant to highlight the different star patterns used in quilt making.

“The star pattern is one of the oldest and most popular patterns used in quilt making. Quilt historians trace the first quilts that used the star pattern back to early 18th century and they were made in England and the eastern part of the United States,” said the group’s president, Sandy Stark, noting the pattern was named the Mathematical Star.

“One of the most well-known variations of the star pattern came from Texas, where quilters took the pattern commonly known as the Star of Bethlehem and renamed it the Lone Star,” she said.

Admission is free; door prizes and handmade favors will be awarded.

For more information, call Stark at (606) 638-0284.
