SOUTH SHORE — Kindergarten registration set

SOUTH SHORE - McKell Elementary School will have registration from 8 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. March 28 and 29 at the school.

By the beginning of next school year, students must have a certificate of live birth, Social Security card, immunization record, physical exam, Kentucky eye exam, dental exam and any custody papers involving the child.

Business concept papers accepted

SOMERSET - The 10th annual Excellence in Entrepreneurship Collegiate Business Concept Challenge is searching for the most innovative business concept from aspiring student entrepreneurs on southern and eastern Kentucky college campuses.

The contestant or business team with the top business concept will receive a $1,000 cash prize and tailored feedback about the idea from some of the region’s leading business leaders and entrepreneurs.

The regional awards competition is open to full- and part-time graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in a public or private university, college or community college in southern and eastern Kentucky.

Clothing to be given away

WESTWOOD - Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church at 1820 Hoods Creek Pike will host its annual free spring and summer clothing distribution, Keepers’ Closet, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 16 in the church gymnasium in back of the sanctuary.

Clothing for children, women and men as well as some miscellaneous items will be available. Free refreshments will be served.

Ham testing will be Saturday

ASHLAND - The River Cities Amateur Radio Association will have an American Radio Relay League-sponsored testing session at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 2212 Carter Ave., for new or upgrade of radio amateur licenses.

Two forms of identification, including a photo ID such as driver’s license, amateur radio license or current Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination, are required.

Transfer Madness will be today

ASHLAND - Ashland Community and Technical College students thinking about university transfer can connect to 25 Kentucky four-year institutions during an online Transfer Madness Fair from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today.

During the statewide  fair, students can chat online with advisers, search for scholarships, download materials and register for prizes.

High school students thinking about attending ACTC before transferring for a bachelor’s degree also are invited to the fair.  Many of the participating colleges and university will waive application fees for students who visit their transfer booth during the fair. High schoolers asked to compete

SOMERSET - High school freshmen, sophomores and juniors can build their business and entrepreneurial skills this summer at the Center for Rural Development’s 2013 Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute.

Scrapbooking  event slated

OLIVE HILL - Wild Wacky Weekend, a scrapbooking workshop weekend, will be March 15 through 17 at Carter Caves State Resort Park.
