Cut-a-Thon will be Sunday
ASHLAND - Studio 21 will have a Cut-a-Thon from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday to support the backpack program in the Ashland Independent School District.
Donations of $10 or an easy-to-open snack will be accepted in exchange for a haircut.
A quilt raffle is planned and snow cones will be for sale.
New cotillion classes slated
BELLEFONTE - Cotillion classes will begin Oct. 25 at Bellefonte Country Club.
The etiquette and dance classes are aimed at seventh- and eighth-graders. Barbara Ann Wheeler is the instructor.

AARF bingo set for weekend
ASHLAND - The Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have bingo (license 2321) on Saturday and Sunday in the community room at the Kyova Mall.
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and bingo will start at 6:30.
Floor games and light refreshments will be available.
A minimum of two packs is $10; two packs plus a computer is $25.
The AARF kennel is open for adoptions from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Dance party will be Friday
HUNTINGTON - A retro dance party, co-sponsored by Publishers Place of Huntington and St. Joseph High School, will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday in the school gymnasium at Sixth Avenue and 13th Street.
Lunch for two at area restaurants will be awarded to winners of five dance contests: Charleston, swing, cha-cha, jitterbug and twist.
Music will be provided by the Backyard Dixie Jazz Stompers.
Appetizers and cash bar plus a silent auction of items, such as a signed picture of Chad Pennington, a football signed by Troy Brown and a signed copy of Marshall coach Bobby Pruett’s sports biography, are planned.
Authors will sign copies of recent books, including Boyd Smith, “The Moonshine Maker” (memoir) and Eliot Parker, “Breakdown at Clear River” (sports mystery).
Participating restaurants for dance prizes are Le Bistro, Max and Erma’s, Central City Cafe, La Famiglia and Marguerita’s, all of Huntington.
The entry fee for the speakeasy-themed evening is $20 single, $30 couple.
