Arts Council of Northeastern Kentucky is taking a new approach to communication.
Jeremy R. Grizzle, president of the council, said the organization is planning to start a monthly, web-based show aiming to involve young people in the area in the arts.
Grizzle said he has done a web program before.
“When I taught high school, we had a bi-weekly web show called ‘The ArtRoom and Beyond,’” he said. “It was student produced and directed. I did most, if not all, the editing and pre-shoot planning. The kids came up with skits and interviews for the show. ... Some of the episodes are pretty funny. Some of the episodes got me in trouble for letting the kids be creative, which I didn’t mind.”
He said the new show, also called “The ArtRoom and Beyond,” is expected to launch in March.
He said he came up with the idea for some of his students who enjoyed theater but who didn’t have access to a theater class at school.
“They took my art class and their grade was based on production of the show,” he said, noting the host of the show was Samuel Perkins, who is now a theater major at Morehead State University and regularly appears with the Paramount Players as well as on the MSU stage.
Grizzle said Perkins recently contacted him “missing the show.”
“We brainstormed a bit and came up with the idea of launching a ‘more professional’ show to help promote the arts in our area,” he said, noting the show will include interviews with artists and video from art shows and performances with Perkins hosting a segment titled “Morehead Theatre Minute.”
Grizzle said the show won’t require much work and he’s already equipped with the devices he needs to make it happen.
“We’re hoping to get a youth following. Maybe it will help get them more involved with the arts in the Ashland area,” he said.
In addition, Grizzle said the arts council news will be announced via email and twitter. On Twitter, it is @ArtCouncilNEKY.
