The Paramount Players’ production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 through 14 with a 3 p.m. show on Dec. 14.
Education/Outreach Director Melanie Cornelison, who also directs the Paramount Players said “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” has become a classic.
“I picked ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ because it is such a great show and it is very funny, but yet it tells the real meaning of Christmas,” she said.
The play is about a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant who are faced with casting the Herdman children — some of the most inventively awful children in history.
The show also gives many opportunities for the public to get in a show. She said the cast of 80 is mostly children, more than half of whom have never been in on stage in a play.
“I consider this a true Christmas classic and throughout my career, I have performed in or directed it seven times,” she said. “We did it three years ago at the Paramount and it was so popular we decided it was time to bring it back.
“I love the fact that it was written by Barbara Robinson, who was a native of Portsmouth, so the show has some local ties.”
The Paramount has already been the venue for Ashland Youth Ballet’s “The FunKiKrakr” and “A Dickens of a Christmas.” In addition to this play, Classic Christmas Crooners Tour, which features Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., will come to the Paramount at 7 p.m. Dec. 20.
“Christmas season at the PAC is always busy,” Cornelison said. “This is a great show for the whole family. All four of our school shows are totally sold out.”
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” presented by the Paramount Players, will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 through 14 and at 4 p.m. Dec. 14. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children.
